Menchukha is a small town nestled 6,000 feet (1,829 m) above sea level in West Siang District of North Arunachal Pradesh, India. The name Men-chu-kha means medicinal water of snow where men is medicine, chu is water and kha is snow. Mechuka, the unexplored valley of Arunachal Pradesh in the Eastern Himalayas is blessed with the stunning beauty of blue hills, river Yargyapchu/Siom, and lush green forests.
The prime attraction of Mechuka is its natural scenic beauty and the ancient Buddhist Monastery Samten Yongcha of Mehayana sect. This 400-year-old monastery is perched at a hilltop in the western part of Mechuka valley. This gompa or monastery is contemporary to the great Tawang monastery of the state and it serves as one of the important tourist spots of the region.
The popular name for Menchukha is Mechukha. The local population is primarily Membas, a Tibeto- mongloid Ethnic Group. The one thing that’s unique about Mechukha is the hospitality of its people.
